Alternative Gift Lists

Small Gift

What to do if the traditional wedding gift list option is not for you...

A guide on gift lists:

It used to be so simple for wedding guests to find the perfect wedding gift idea – just buy the happy couple a toaster or a tea cosy. But not every couple needs twenty of each, and no every couple even needs a blender or linens – if you can believe it! If this is sounding more like you and your fiancé, and you’re stuck on what to ask for, then have no fear, we’re here to help you find a wedding gift option that is right for your newly wed status.

  • You could ask guests to give gift vouchers for a department store of your choice, to be used as and when needed in the future.
  • You could ask for money to be deposited in a special bank account with a designated purpose - eg, a deposit on a new home, furniture for an existing property or even to start a saving fund for future children.
  • If you decide to be really selfless, you could ask for the money to be spent on higher causes: donated to a charity of your choice. Talk about great karma for life!

Don’t feel pressured into doing a gift list from a department store full of things you don’t need. Your guests want you to like their presents, so offer them help! It is best to give them some guidance as to what you might be looking for (charity, donation, etc.) around the time that you send out the wedding invitations. You don’t want to cause your guests trouble by requiring them to return the blender they bought for you a month ago!
