With or Without the Bridal Bouquet?

For some brides, wedding flowers are a must on the big day. While for others, flowers may be out of place, out of character, or just too much added work throughout the wedding planning.

Some Bouquet inspiration from our experts:

If flowers make you bloom, here are a few ideas for our to run with:

  • Why not walk down the aisle with a single long stemmed rose or sunflower in your hand?
  • If you are planning on being a winter bride you could carry a muff decorated with a spray of seasonal foliage.
  • Have you thought about a pomander bouquet? These flower balls carry like a purse with long ribbons attached, they look stunning with a simple dress.
  • Or you could wear a floral crown, which also enables you to keep your hands free.
  • Have you thought of decorating your hat or hairpiece with roses or weaving orchids around your wedding dress?

If you want to steer away from flowers altogether here are a few alternatives

  • Holding the Bible or white prayer book is a lovely sacred sign. It is not too hard to find very decorative, beautiful editions of both. Again, they would look best with a simple gown. But remember, that books can be pretty heavy...
  • If you are not that religious and would prefer your wedding to be unusual have you thought about a parasol, paper or silk? You could carry a large colourful one, while the bridesmaids could hold smaller slightly plainer ones.
  • If you would prefer to hold something close to your chest, have you considered a fan? A Victorian fan can compromise for those who do not want to shock a conventional family. Oriental fans can look stunning too and if the summer is hot your bridesmaids will really appreciate them!
  • Another summer idea could be a giant lollipop, with a "family" of smaller ones for the bridesmaids....
  • If you're planning a winter wedding and want to think about the cold, fur muffs will resolve this problem.
  • Or candles! Can you imagine your row of bridesmaids walking down the dark aisle of the church or reception hall carrying warm lights? If you choose to run with the candles idea make sure the site manager won't mind!
  • Sparklers are another alternative. White on the way down the aisle and pink for the way back?

Whatever you choose remember your 'bouquet' must fit the rest of your wedding. If you already have a theme, use the theme to inspire you to find the most suitable thing to carry. If you don't have a bouquet, it's up to you and your imagination to find something you can toss into the waiting crowd!
